The APC team has been busy organising a free webinar on the 7th March 2018 at 6pm. The webinar will be streamed for approximately 1 hour and will feature two speakers from
alternative pharmacy backgrounds. The speakers have kindly agreed to discuss their pharmacy journey and how they got to where they are right now after having diverted from a typical pathway of a pharmacist’s role.
Both of our speakers will be happy to answer any of your questions during the live show. You will be able to submit them through throughout the interview with the speakers or just send us the questions through Facebook, Twitter or email beforehand using #APCwebinar18.
Here is a small insight into their careers so you can start to think about what questions you would like to ask...
Kate Enright
Having obtained an undergraduate bursary from the British Army at the age of 16, Kate chose to study Pharmacy at the University of Bath and graduated with First Class honours in 2005. Following a pre-registration year with Pfizer and Kent & Canterbury hospital, she attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst for Officer training. During her seven years in serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps, Kate held a diverse range of positions that spanned clinical, supply chain, education, policy and governance. In addition, she had the opportunity to work in a variety of operational contexts, including two tours of Afghanistan and Iraq. Kate left the Army as a Major in the summer of 2013 and entered the humanitarian sector – initially with MERLIN and, upon their acquisition, Save the Children. She supported a breadth of humanitarian, development, advocacy and emergency programmes during this time, including to Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Chad and Myanmar. However, her real achievements lay in shifting the culture of this multinational organisation. Astounded by the underutilisation of pharmacy as a discipline – and the impact of this knowledge gap – Kate campaigned tirelessly to obtain transformative investment in the pharmaceutical supply chain and the creation of a Global Pharmacy Team. In 2017 Kate joined UK-Med as the Pharmacy & Supply Chain Lead, where she is supporting the World Health Organisation initiative to create accountable and deployable “Emergency Medical Teams”. Recently she founded “Global Pharmacy Exchange”, with the belief that a more connected, aware and empowered pharmacy workforce will be transformative for promoting the equitable access to medicines and healthcare.
Babir Malik
In 2003 Babir started his pharmacy journey at the University of Bradford, after already completing his Biomedical Sciences degree. After graduating in 2007 he undertook his pre-registration training with Weldricks Pharmacy followed by Postgraduate Diploma in Community Pharmacy at Keele University. Babir has also completed his RPS Faculty journey, currently is at Stage 1 as well as a 10 week secondment as a Clinical Commissioning Group Pharmacist early in 2016 . By taking it upon himself to focus on his role in academia he successfully became Weldricks Teacher Practitioner at the University of Bradford. He has been a Pre-registration Tutor, RPS pre-registration lead for law and ethics as well as a public speaker at pharmacy conferences. Currently he practices in Weldricks Pharmacy, Scunthorpe and in 2016, his pharmacy was awarded the Chemist and Druggist Medicines Optimisation Award for their innovative LPS Intervention Service. Babir also actively engages and raises awareness of different charities alongside being a Dementia Friend Champion and generating over 300 dementia friends. He is well known and successful on social media which he uses to interact with pharmacists, pharmacy students and other healthcare professionals. Moreover he has also written two short, satirical books from the environment of a community pharmacy.
